Overview

Virginia Tech employees can learn and develop their office software skills by participating in  classroom-based training or completing online training modules. Both are available at no cost to university employees.

In addition to learning new skills, employees can demonstrate their expertise by completing one of University Organizational and Professional Development's Office Software Skills Certificate programs.

Office Software Skills Certificate (PC) Options

Classroom-based – Complete six full days of classroom-based training, including at least two levels of training in each of two different desktop applications.

Online – Complete eight of the pre-approved modules, including at least two levels of training in each of two different desktop applications.

Blended learning* – Any combination of eight classroom-based and/or pre-approved modules, including at least two levels of training in each of two different desktop applications.

Office Software Skills Certificate (Mac) Option

Online only – Complete any eight of the pre-approved modules.

Office Software Excellence Certificate (PC) Option

Online option only – A software program excellence certificate can be earned by completing all designated software playlist levels associated with a specific desktop software title. Playlist course details can be viewed by:

  1. Logging into lynda.com
  2. Search for a desktop software program (e.g. Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint)
  3. Click the “Playlists” option (left menu bar)

*To receive credit for modules completed online, employees will need to provide University Organizational and Professional Development with each respective lynda.com module’s certificate of completion.
